PT Closer To Being Finished

Posted in Custom PT Cruiser with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 15, 2010 by thecustomcrew

.

We put the lights on and got things a little closer to being finished on the PT today.  Still have to finish screwing everything together inside the fender wells, then doing some finishing touches in them to clean things up.  The Flat BC/CC looks much better than the Single Stage Hot Rod Flatz looked.  I’ll never use them again for dark colors unless it is a Basecoat/Clearcoat system.

Once we get it cleaned up I’ll take a break before finishing up the interior. When I do the interior I will carry the two tone w/ stripe on all the metal parts of the doors.  I also think we’ll try to find some black door panels, carpet and seats to change out the gray stuff that’s in there now, but that will be later on. Bosco will get the windows tinted dark and then look into some 20′s or 18/20′s in like a Torque Thrust II look or something.  Makes a decent daily driver…..for a PT anyways (lol)

PT Cruiser With Yellow Stripe Seperating Colors

Like the title states, I painted a 1/2″ Yellow stripe to separate the Black & Burnt Orange.  The only major problem with the paintjob is the Hot Rod Flatz Black.  I didn’t like how blotchy it turned out the first time, so I sanded it down and shot the black again…with the same results.  So, after talking with different painters and searching the internet I found out that the Black is notorious for becoming either blotchy or striping.  The only way I can see to resolve this is to sand it one last time and shoot it Black Basecoat with a Flat Clear over the top.  All of the other painters agreed that it is the only way to put on the Hot Rod Flatz Black, single stage will only give you problems…so I found out.  So here are some pictures of how it now sits.

Oh ya, the spoiler is not yet attached, it is just sitting there.

PT Cruiser Orange With Black Top….

Well, it looks as though something is finally getting done on the PT Cruiser.  I am doing the bottom Burnt Orange, the top will be Black (Both In Hot Rod Flatz) and I will paint a Yellow separator stripe between the Orange and Black.  I may pinstripe both sides of the 1/2″ Yellow stripe, but not sure which colors yet.

Anyway, here are some more pictures…..

PT Cruiser Orange….HUH?!?!?!?

Well, FINALLY got some color on it last night.  I think I had mentioned in an earlier post that we decided to go with a satin paintjob for now.  Gonna be orange on the bottom and black on top with The Custom Crew shield painted on the sides of the panels.  Later down the road we may go ahead and paint it gloss tangelo, but for now it’s satin.  I will tape off the top probably on Monday to shoot the top, but for now here is how she sits.

PT Cruiser Update 02/14/10

Well here are the pictures finally.  They were taken in the paint booth so sorry for not being able to get it all in the frame.  Basically I have to block sand, put on some finishing glaze, block again & then repeat until it is ready for paint.  Hopefully the next time you see it it will have paint on it, as long as I have no more finishing glaze issues.

PT Cruiser Update – Lower Door Spears Shaved

Wow, what week this has been.  I had the whole PT sanded down, put on some finishing glaze to get the small pinholes and imperfections that the bondo missed.  I applied it all on Monday night, came in Tuesday morning to find out that the finishing glaze did not harden.  WTH!  I had to scrape everything off with a razor blade and now I am back to where I was a week ago.  Either it was too cold or just bad glaze, either way I have no time to whine about it, I need to get back on track and do it again (with a different glaze of coarse).

Anyway, here is where I am (or was) before the finishing glaze was applied.

Primer on the PT Cruiser

Posted in Custom PT Cruiser with tags , , , , , , , , , on December 18, 2009 by thecustomcrew

Well I finally was able to get the PT to a point where I could put some primer on the panels so I can start the block sanding and finish work on them.

I also did a mock up of the switch panel on the drivers door that will give Bosco quick access to open any door or the rear hatch.   What I would like to do is put in some flush mount stainless switches and drill 1mm holes in front of each button.   I would then mount LED lights under the holes so there would be small faint lights in front of each switch to make in more user friendly at night.

Enjoy,

Mike

P.S. New Sledster News to be coming very soon so make sure to check back.

PT Cruiser Driver Side

Well, finally got the metal work done on the drivers side and started applying the very thin coats of filler to get everything straight.  I need to get some 3.5in. exhaust tubing so I can start with the tailights.  I put most of the wiring together for the remote doors, I just have to completely disassemble the PT to get to the battery.  Why on earth would they put the battery under the air cleaner where it is so difficult to get to… oh well.

PT Cruiser, Drivers Side

In the process of getting the drivers side windows welded in and ready for filler.  I have the rear quarter window welded in and just need to get the bottom of the rear door window welded in.  I have to make a filler piece that attaches the door to the bottom of the panel, get that welded in then start the filler stage.

I also had to weld a Oxy-Acetylene welding rod to the front edge of the rear door to close up the gap to make it fit with the rest of the door gaps on the car.

PT Cruiser Color Choice

Posted in Custom PT Cruiser on December 2, 2009 by thecustomcrew

Here is the color that the PT Cruiser is going to be.  The pictures are from my 1969 Chevy shortbed truck project that has been ongoing for 5 years so far.  If you want to see more pictures of my truck build, click here .

The color is House Of Kolor Tangelo Pearl.  It is basically a bright Orange with lots of Yellow Pearl in it that looks incredible in the sunlight and can be noticed a mile ahead of you.  Bosco wanted something that gets noticed because of all the changes I am making and I think Tangelo will do that.  He’d better keep to the speed limits because the Police will see him speeding a mile away as well.
